Posting a job advert should be a simple and straightforward process. With Talos, it is!

In this guide, it will cover how to create a job advert, including selecting your job boards, amending the job details and selecting any additional options which we call 'mappings' if these are available for the job boards you are posting to.

This guide will go step by step, however, you can jump directly to a section via the right-hand side sections list.

Creating a job post

Selecting team, advert template and job boards

To create your new job post, you will need to access the 'Post a Vacancy' screen, which you can access here.

Note: you will need to have access to the 'Post' module to be able to access the Post a Vacancy screen and post roles on Talos.

On the Post a Vacancy screen, click on the 'Please select a team' dropdown and select the relevant team you would like to post your new job post to:

If any advert templates have been assigned to the team you are posting to, you will be able to select one to use at this point:

Tip: using an advert template is a great way to quickly create your job post, as the majority of the job detail information will already be pre-populated for you.

Next, select the job boards you would like to post your new job post to by selecting the checkbox on the job board. Once you are happy with the selections, click on 'Next' in the lower right-hand corner of the screen:

Completing the job details

The job details page is where you can tailor your advert, including providing the job title, location, salary information, job advert and much more.

You will need to ensure that the Job Reference is unique for each role posted. This can either be entered manually, or you can select the ‘Auto Generate Reference’ option.

Ensure that the Job Title you insert is concise, and is a title that candidates are likely to search on the job boards. This job title field should only include the title of the role and not any additional information , as this can impact the visibility of roles on the job boards.

When completing the Location field, begin typing the location of your role, and select the relevant option from the populated drop-down list. This ensures that the location will display correctly on the job boards and that the correct County and Country are populated.

Please also include a full postcode for the role, as not all job boards support partial postcodes.

Note: additional locations can be added to the 'Location' dropdown if the location you require is not currently available.

If your role is a remote work position, you can select the Fully Remote tick box.

Complete the Primary Industry, Business Type, Employment and Type of Employment fields, using the options available in the drop-down selections.

For the Primary Industry field, multiple options can be selected. The Business Type field should relate to the sector of your Business, rather than the role itself.

Complete the salary banding for your advert. This is used on the job boards to ensure that candidates entering salary search criteria can see roles meeting that criteria. Be as generous as you can with this banding, as this will ensure the role is visible to more candidates. Select the rate of pay from the options in the drop-down.

Complete the ‘Salary Text Replacement’ field with any wording you wish to display on your adverts - this will override the salary banding fields. Any information added to the ‘Salary Extras’ field will be added on to the end of the salary information.

Note: There is also an option to hide the salary from showing on your advert N.b you will still need to complete the salary banding fields, even if you are not showing the salary, to ensure your role appears in relevant candidate searches on the job boards.

Add in your Advert Copy - this will be displayed on the job boards to advise candidates of all relevant information they need to know about the role before applying. To ensure your advert shows as highly as possible in search results, include your job title (as entered in the Job Title field) 5-7 times throughout the advert text.

There are multiple options to help format the advert copy within Talos, which are shown across the top menu bar.

As there are character limitations on certain job boards, the character count (including HTML code) is detailed in the lower right-hand corner of the advert copy section. As most candidates apply for jobs on their phones, ensure your advert copy is as concise as possible. As standard we advise aiming for a character count of 4,800 including HTML.

Note: To reduce the character count of your Advert Copy, it is advisable to copy your advert text into Notepad and then back into Talos. You can then format the advert text within Talos, and this will limit the amount of formatting copied over from the document.

Next, if applicable, select the application form that is to be used for this role by selecting the relevant application form from the drop-down list.

If the vacancy is to be posted at a future date, this can be selected from the calendar. You can also select an Expiry Date for the role, which determines when your advert will be pulled down from the job boards. Please note, once closed, you would need to use a further credit to get the advert live again.

Once you are happy with the details of the job post, select ‘Next’ in the lower right-hand corner of this section.

Additional job detail information

You will then be taken to the Mappings Screen, where you can check the pre populated fields. These fields will determine where an advert will sit on each job boards. You can edit these by selecting the pencil icon. On the last screen is the mappings that can be selected. Mappings are used primarily for your Careers Page, to link roles to specific sections on the Careers Page, such as department or location.

If there are no mappings, this will be shown, and you can click on ‘Post Job’. If there are mappings to be selected, click on the ‘Pencil’ icon, and from here you will be able to select the relevant mapping:

Once you have posted the role, you will be presented with the 'Vacancy Overview' screen, where you can see the job boards the role has been posted to, the result of the job post, as well as some additional details:

To load the vacancy, click on the 'View Posted Vacancy' button in the Vacancy Overview screen. You can also find your vacancy on the 'Vacancies' screen which can be accessed via the left-hand sidebar:

Note:

  • Once roles are Archived/Expired, the credit will be spent and you will need to spend another credit to get a role live again.

  • For any role amendments, please contact the Advertising Support team to avoid a further credit being spent.

  • To get an archived/expired role live again, we recommend Copying a role rather than Reposting.

FAQ

Why is an advert not immediately showing on the feed boards?

The feeds are sent at certain intervals throughout the day, and this varies per feed boards. The Indeed feed is sent every 4-6 hours, so roles can take up to this length of time to be displayed. The LinkedIn feed is sent every morning at approximately 6-7am.

What do the mappings on the mappings screen do?

The mappings determine where your advert will sit on the job boards, for candidate searches. E.g. which sector the advert will sit under

Can I pause an advert on the job boards?

No, your advert is either live, or closed on the job boards, and a 'pause' status is not supported
