Welcome to the New Applicant Screen Experience

An introduction to the new Applicant Screen in Talos – what's changed, what's new, and where to find out more.

Written by Lisa Cunliffe

The Applicant Screen has had a significant overhaul – improving its usability, design and performance to give you a faster, more responsive way of managing your candidates and vacancies day to day.

This article gives you a tour of what's changed and where to find more detail on each area. If you're moving over from the previous Applicant Screen, most of what you already know still applies – you'll just find it faster, better organised, and with a host of new features alongside it.

Finding your way around

The new screen has a redesigned header and sidebar, giving you quick access to every vacancy you have permission to view without leaving the page, along with a search bar to find the vacancy you need.

Anything not housed directly on the screen – such as Add Applicant, Vacancy Notes or Vacancy Details – lives in the Vacancy Manager side drawer, where you can pin your most frequently used actions to.

Managing your Candidates

The candidate experience has been rebuilt around getting you the information you need with fewer clicks:

  • Candidate avatar menu – hover for contact details without opening the full profile, and copy them directly.

  • Candidate navigation – move between candidates in the same milestone or progression stage without returning to the list.

  • Candidate list – see reject reasons, time in stage, highlights, notes, star ratings and system flags at a glance.

  • Application accordion – CV and application form view, plus a Past Applications tab, distance to vacancy, and a commute time calculator.

  • Candidate activity panel – tags, star ratings, highlights and data retention in one collapsible panel, alongside a rebuilt Candidate Notes experience with tagging, role-based visibility and cross-application viewing.

You'll also find Custom Fields, a brand new way to capture additional data on an application using dropdown, free text or date fields – set these up with your Customer Success Manager or the Support team.

Searching and Filtering

Search has been rebuilt to help you find the right candidates faster, with boolean and keyword search across a candidate's full profile, CV keyword highlighting, and filters you can save for reuse.

Unbiased Recruitment

Unbiased Recruitment has had a major upgrade, with more configuration than ever. Working alongside CV Redaction, you can control exactly who sees candidate information at each milestone via Roles & Permissions, and the new screen highlights which milestones are set as unbiased.

Vacancies, Headcount & Admin

Beyond the candidate experience, the new screen brings vacancy configuration, access management and ATR history into view without leaving the applicant screen, plus Headcount – a new way to manage approved hiring volumes against a vacancy.

Still to Come

We're continuing to roll out functionality onto the new screen – including Scorecards, Video Screening and a handful of onboarding integrations, which for now remain on the previous screen. You'll be notified in-app as these become available, and you can keep up with what's shipped each month in Talos Product Updates.

FAQs

  • Why can I no longer view candidates that have had their data anonymised?

This is intentional, so you can focus on candidates where their data is still available. Once a candidate's data has been anonymised, they're hidden from the new screen.

  • I renamed one of my progression stages. Why does it still show the old name on some candidates and the new one on others?

This is also intentional – candidates who were already at that stage when you renamed it keep the old stage name, while any candidate newly moved to the stage gets the new name.

  • Why can't I get to legacy Interview Booking via the new Applicant Screen?

The new screen doesn't support the legacy Interview Booking module. If a candidate is progressing to a stage with Interview Booking attached, you will not be able to proceed with the action. Please reach out to your Customer Success manage to discuss moving to the updated Interview Scheduler.

What's not on the new screen?

We're continuing to migrate functionality across from the previous Applicant Screen. As of August 2026, the following features are only available on the previous screen:

  • Scorecards (in active development)

  • Video Screening

  • Incomplete Applications handling

  • A small number of onboarding integrations, including Cascade, PeopleHR, Atlantic Data, AdonisHR, SMI and Cezanne

If you rely on any of the above, you'll still need the previous Applicant Screen until these migrations are complete – everything else can be done on the new screen. We'll update this article as each area moves across.
